So, can we talk about Curlfest?!!! I’m loving the fact that Curly Girl Collective created a space for people to celebrate the natural texture of their hair. In a society that tells us our naturally curly, kinky hair is unprofessional, unkempt, and down right ugly, being provided a safe space to celebrate the beauty of our hair is what gives my heart the warm and fuzzies. While I didn’t get the chance to go this year, my little sister got the chance to attend this year. And let me tell you. SHE. LOVES. IT.
I mean, apparently, Curlfest is any curly girl’s dream. They have an array of vendors, all providing products to keep your curls popping. Not only are there vendors, but also, a dj playing all the jams, a Soul Train style dance-off, live demos, and panel discussions on the beauty of our hair. At Curlfest, a curly girl gets the opportunity to meet some of her favorite natural hair gurus/youtubers, make new friends, and dance her life away. So, who was at Curlfest this year? On the Vendor side you could find Ampro Gel, Shea Moisture, Mielle Organics, Jamaica Mango and Lime, LottaBaby, Deva Curl, As I Am, Jane Carter Solution, and so much more. As for natural hair gurus, you could find yourself in the company of Daye (@dayelasou), Micaela Verrelien (@micaelaverrelien), and the likes. I am having a serious case of FOMO. BUT! I will be in attendance next year and I can’t wait to see you lovely beauties, then!
